Concerned about what to wear to a forthcoming special occasion or a glamorous day at the races? Your solution could be right here in Rototuna at 131 Fashions. Even better is the news that their autumn sale starts on Saturday 15 April.
Local resident Nicolene Williams acquired the 131 Fashions business from Gaye Watson who used to run the go-to shop for mothers of the bride when it was located near the hospital. Nicolene designed 131 Fashions’ local showroom, giving the iconic brand a stylish facelift. The elegant, light and airy new look is mostbecoming on a brand name that is celebrating its fortieth birthday this year.
As well as stocking favourite designers such as Joseph Ribkoff, Anthea Crawford and Jane Daniels. She also sells accessories – a luscious fur wrap springs to mind. Warmer jackets and merino tops and dresses are coming in over the next few weeks.During her childhood, Nicolene watched her father, a bespoke tailor, at work.
“He worked with love and integrity. That’s where I came to appreciate quality of designs, fabrics and workmanship,” said Nicolene.
It was this apprenticeship that gave Nicolene the skills to produce made-to-measure outfits to her own designs. She can also give a nip and tuck to 131 Fashions’ off-the-rack garments to make them just the right fit for her customers.
Nicolene opened 131 Fashions in Rototuna in November 2016. Already she is enjoying the variety that changes in fashion and the seasons bring. Most especially, she enjoys the people she encounters in her work.
“There was the lady who turned round to a customer who was coming into the shop and said ‘You’re in for a treat.’ I love to see customers going out knowing that they are sorted for the special occasion where they want to look fantastic. They look so relieved. They can relax now,” said Nicolene.
